A programme for Secondary Schools & Community Groups.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Tramore' surf beach with its amazing sandunes, nature reserve and surrounded by cliffs, our retreat offers students the opportunity to step away from routine and encounter Gods love through adventure in His creation.

Dive in to the surf with our surfing priests and learn to surf with Freedoms professional surf instructors.With guided discussion and time spent in the beauty of Gods creation, students are invited to consider life’s deeper questions about identity, purpose, meaning and faith. An engaging creation talk led by Fr. Taddeo and Fr. Stuart, encourage thoughtful conversations about what it means to live with faith and confidence in today’s world.

10.am . Meet and Greet with Fr Taddeo / Fr Stuart & The Freedom Team.

• Opening Prayer and Creation Talk / Discussion by Fr Taddeo / Fr Stuart.

•Surfing Lesson with Freedoms Surf Instructors accompanied by Fr Taddeo & Fr Stuart.
Students will experience the joy of the Ocean 

The surf lesson consists of Indoor/ Outdoor Instruction covering Surfing Technique, Equipment and practical demonstration.Students Warmup before taking to the waves for a fun surf lesson with our experienced surf instructors .All equipment is provided.

1pm. Lunch : Tea and coffee provided at the Surf School Coffee Bar.

1.45pm : Creation discussion with Fr Taddeo / Fr Stuart followed by beach hike & team challenges.

2.45pm : Group reflection of the days retreat - closing prayer      

Optional: Reconciliation or Mass are available on request.

Depart  : 3pm

What Students need to bring on the day.
1. A pack lunch.
2.  Towel & swimwear
3. Wind/rain jacket.,spare shoes

Ardscoil na Mara's school prayer group recently took part in a remarkable creation retreat at Freedom Surf School in Tramore. This unique retreat, catering to secondary school students, provided an opportunity to nurture minds, bodies, and souls. The students and teachers were able to experience the exhilarating sport of surfing while also exploring how God remains relevant in their lives today.
The majestic setting of Tramore Bay proved to be an ideal location for students to learn to surf and delve into deeper questions surrounding life and faith. An engaging talk on God’s creation was delivered by Fr Taddeo from the Holy Family Mission at Glencomeragh House, enriching the retreat's spiritual aspect. As a Christian ethos school, Ardscoil na Mara is committed to the moral and spiritual formation of its students, so that, as discerning adults, they may participate in life to the full.

This retreat uniquely blended faith, surfing, and the joy of God’s creation into one harmonious experience. Students relished the diverse team faith challenges, particularly the beach hike, where they could share personal stories of God's influence in their lives. The retreat also provided students with the opportunity to reflect on their beliefs, find spiritual support among their peers, and enjoy the fun of surfing amidst the stunning backdrop of Tramore Bay.

Fr Taddeo’s talks received high praise, with many students noting how inspiring and relevant they found his words. Several described the retreat as the best day they'd had in a long time, appreciating the sense of unity and purpose it fostered. Freedom Surf School provided tea, coffee, and snacks upon arrival, as well as comprehensive surf instruction, equipment, and practical demonstrations. This seamless organisation allowed students to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

A heartfelt thank you goes from Ms Fleming, and all the students who attended from Ardscoil na Mara, to Billy at Freedom Surf School, and Fr Taddeo for making this retreat such a memorable occasion. Their dedication ensured that it successfully united faith, fun, and nature, and we look forward to returning for another retreat at the earliest opportunity.

• Lesson Details, and what to bring:

  Lesson Starts with

  The Surf lesson starts with a 15 minute land based instruction & safety brief at the surf school base, followed by wet suit fitting & changing. A light warm up at water’s edge, then into the surf with your instructor for approximately one hour. Instruction takes place in waist depth water for maximum learning, enjoyment and safety. Return to the surf school for a hot shower, relax and lesson recap in the kitchen Coffee Doc.

  Please note : lesson / surf camp times may be changed to suit surf / weather conditions.

  All Equipment Provided

  Wetsuit, boots, (hoods and gloves in winter), beginner Surf Board. We have a wide range of wetsuits and equipment, our experienced Surf Instructors will provide the necessary guidance to make sure the equipment is right for you.

  Beginner Surf Lesson

  We start with the fundamentals of surfing which provide you with the best foundation to build your surfing skills.  Our experienced surf instructors will take you through step by step techniques on how to get to your feet. This is all done in a fun and relaxed atmosphere geared to building your confidence and encouraging you as you progress.

  Developer Surf Lesson

  Our Developer Surf Lesson progresses the surfer to start riding unbroken waves.   Your instructor will help you to develop paddling out skills, duck diving, understand positioning, wave selection, top/bottom turns and cut back along with gaining an understanding of body movement. After completing these lessons you will be on your way to a new level of surfing.

  Improver Surf Lesson

  Our Improver Lesson builds on the basic surfing techniques you have learned, improves your paddling skills, speed up your pop up and develops your turning. During the session you will be given specific tasks and goals to focus and work on to improve your surfing skills.

  Instructors & Safety

  All our Instructors are experienced surfers and Irish Surfing Association Qualified. The ISA ratio of one instructor per eight surfers.  All Instructors are qualified lifeguards and first aiders. For added safety we use Coloured Vests over wetsuits for high visibility and identification. We are an Irish Surfing Association Approved Surf School.

  What you need to bring

  Swimwear & Towel, Sunscreen
  If you have a full wetsuit bring it along, (short wetsuits are not suitable for lessons.)
